Circle of Friends Greyhound Adoptions
About Us:

Circle of Friends Greyhound Adoptions is an independent non-profit corporation registered in the State of North Carolina, inspected and accredited by the State of North Carolina under the General Assembly Animal Welfare Act. CFGA has NO affiliation with any Greyhound track or other organization. Our group is funded by adoption fees, boarding fees and donations. Donations are tax deductible. All of the work with the hounds, as well as other projects at the farm are done by Julie and any available volunteers. At "the farm" we can house about 30 greyhounds. We also have a group of senior greys that call the farm their forever home. They live with Julie in the house. You can find out more about these specials hounds on the Available Hounds and Farm Forevers pages. You can also Sponsor a Grey to help us defray the costs of running the kennel.

We have been finding new homes for retired racers since 1994. Our group focuses on greyhounds, but we occasionally rescue other breeds of sighthounds as well. In 2006, our group relocated to what we call "the farm". Located on a 5-acre track of land near the Davie County and Iredell County line. The kennel was contructed at the rear of the old farmhouse that was already on the property. Julie Dearmin, the director, is the live-in caretaker of all the hounds at the farm.

Our group gets new dogs often, so the list of available dogs is updated frequently. Most of the dogs we recieve are between 2 and 5 years of age, as this range tends to be the most common one of "retirement". Sometimes we get some greys that are a little older. These older greys make WONDERFUL pets. Greyhounds are generally very social, and many get along just fine with cats and other small animals. Housebreaking is also usually a smooth process. Most greys see the house as a great big kennel, and know to keep their kennels clean! Greyhounds do not require a lot of exercise. Granted, some are more active than others and need a nice yard to run in, while others just fine with a few walks a day and a loose romp in a fenced in area every once in a while.

Since they are raised in groups, they are very social with other animals and humans. They crave companionship and affection.  Granted, two hounds are easier than one, but they do just fine alone with a human to call their own.

All of our greys are given a complete medical exam, spayed or neutered, dental and updated on all the necessary shots. They also come with a muzzle and a martingale collar. To find out more about the adoption process, please visit the How to Adopt link!

Please look around our site, and we hope that we are able to help you decide if a greyhound would be right for your family. Please call or e-mail any of our contacts if you have any questions about adopting or just greyhounds in general. And even if you can't adopt, we are always looking for volunteers, sponsors for both the hounds and events, and donations. Thanks for visiting our site.

Make a fast friend for life. Adopt a retired racing greyhound.
